Windows Server 2008 EOL – Extended Support Eligibility

In case you’ve not aware, Windows Server 2008 reaches End of Life (EOL) on the 14th January 2020. For information about eligibility to extended support, please do read on!

New Requirements

Microsoft has created new requirements for accounts purchasing Extended Security Updates (ESU) on the Windows 2008 and Windows 7 platforms.

For accounts that are purchasing ESUs for these platforms you must apply the latest servicing stack update (SSU) and monthly rollup or be unable to apply ESU updates after January 14th 2020.

Additionally, ESU licenses must be purchased and applied via VAMT (KMS) or slmgr. This may require a KMS server be built and / or additional firewall requirements.

What to do

Please ensure that you review the links below for specific platform ESU requirements.
